MultiSet: Outdoor VPS Localization, WebXR SDK for Headsets, Native SDKs with App-Free Capabilities

Updated: Jul 11

MultiSet AI Announces the Public Release of Version 1.6.5 of its Visual Positioning System (VPS) Platform

===================================================================

MultiSet AI recently launched Version 1.6.5 of its Visual Positioning System (VPS) platform. This new release includes a range of product enhancements and capabilities tailored for enterprise AR developers. The latest update significantly improves 3D mapping imports, expands SDK support, and enables install-free AR applications. Key highlights include improved E57 scan processing, accurate mesh normals, a new Unity sample scene for location-based AR training, and fully native SDKs for Android, iOS, and WebXR. These upgrades allow developers to create precise, large-scale AR navigation and training applications without requiring users to download full apps.

Robust, Large-Scale Outdoor Localization

One of the standout features of this update is its high-accuracy 6DOF tracking. This refinement allows for centimeter-level localization accuracy across vast and complex outdoor environments. The VPS engine has been specially trained for real-world conditions. Its neural networks expertly manage diverse lighting and dynamic changes—such as moving objects and shifting scenes. Consequently, the AR overlay remains "locked on target" during environmental transitions. In essence, V1.6.5 significantly enhances MultiSet’s capability to deliver reliable outdoor VPS AR localization in dynamic settings, from expansive factory floors to bustling outdoor sites.

Enhanced 3D Mapping (E57 Support)

Version 1.6.5 enhances MultiSet’s compatibility with third-party scans, such as those from Matterport, Leica, and NavVis. It generates higher-quality meshes from imported E57 files. The newly improved meshes feature accurate face normals, addressing previous issues where facets would disappear. This update builds on MultiSet’s existing platform-agnostic scan import capabilities and ensures developers can utilize consumer LiDAR and professional scanning data for accurate AR anchoring at the stadium or warehouse scale.

Unity SDK Updates

The Unity SDK has received notable updates as well. It now includes a new sample scene, specifically designed for AR-enabled, location-based training and navigation. This addition serves as a ready-made example for simulating indoor AR guidance. Moreover, a bug affecting background localization and navigation mesh has been resolved. This improvement boosts the stability of continuous AR sessions within Unity.

Expanded Native SDKs

Another exciting development is the release of fully native SDKs for Android and iOS on GitHub.

  • The Android SDK, built in Kotlin, provides deep ARCore integration.

  • The iOS SDK offers native Swift support.

These SDKs facilitate install-free AR modes. The Android package enables Google Play Instant Apps, while the iOS package supports Apple App Clips. As a result, location-specific AR content can launch instantly through QR codes or NFC tags. MultiSet emphasizes that the Android Native SDK delivers “full support for Google Play Instant Apps to allow friction-free AR experiences without requiring app installation.” Similarly, the iOS SDK allows instant AR experiences without necessitating full app installation via App Clips.

WebXR SDK

To expand MultiSet’s VPS capabilities to the browser, a new WebXR SDK has been introduced on GitHub. This addition allows developers to create AR navigation and data-overlay experiences that work directly in WebXR-compatible browsers. MultiSet’s platform natively supports WebXR and App Clips, so AR experiences can be initiated via a URL or QR code in a browser environment, bypassing any app downloads. Supported head-mounted displays (HMDs) include:

  1. Meta Quest series

  2. HTC Vive

  3. Apple Vision Pro

  4. Microsoft Hololens

  5. And more

Install-Free AR Applications

Thanks to the new SDK support, MultiSet VPS can now function entirely without app installation. Developers have the option to embed AR asset tracking or training experiences within web pages or trigger them through QR-code-scanned App Clips/Instant Apps. Users can quickly launch these experiences through a link or scan, experiencing precise AR content immediately. They can later choose to install the full app. This “shipping location-based AR experiences without requiring app downloads” strategy substantially reduces friction for enterprise deployments.

Conclusion

Availability: MultiSet V1.6.5 and all associated SDKs are now available for developers. You can download the Unity packages, Android and iOS SDKs, and WebXR SDK from MultiSet’s GitHub repositories or through the MultiSet developer portal. The native SDKs for Android and iOS are particularly important, as they are “available now for all developers.” Interested teams should visit the developer portal to obtain API credentials and get started. Comprehensive documentation, sample code, and tutorials can be found in the MultiSet Developer Docs and community forums.
